One-day National Symposium on Controlled Release in Infection and Cancer on 18th 2007
Controlled Release Society - Indian Chapter and Central Drug Research Institute, Lucknow organized One-day National Symposium on Controlled Release in Infection and Cancer on 18th June 2007 at CDRI Lucknow. Dr. Vinod Behari welcomed the delegates and Prof. H.L. Bhalla President Emeritus; CRS-IC spoke about the CRS-IC activities and appreciated CDRI Scientists for organizing the seminar. Dr. Venkateshwarlu Drugs Controller of India inaugurated the one day symposium and delivered the Presidential address.
The symposium addressed the temporal and spatial aspects of controlled release in the defined area of infectious diseases and cancer. The scientific deliberations included presentations on the following topics by the eminent faculty:

CRS-Local Chapters Board of Directors Joint meeting held at Long Beach was attended by Vice-President CRS-IC Dr. Amarjit Singh who made presentation and reported the activities of Indian Chapter. A poster on CRS-IC activities was also displayed during the Exhibition.

CRS-IC provided travel grant to Mr. Pirthi Pal Singh, research scholar, U.I.C.T, for presentation of poster at 34th Annual Meeting & Exposition of the Controlled Release Society held at Long Beach, California, USA held on July 7-11th, 2007. The title of the poster was "Development of mathematical model for predicting formulation of sustained release products
CRS - Indian Chapter Member Attends the 57th Lindau Meeting of Nobel Laureates and Students
This year, Mr. Ratnesh Jain, one of the student members CRS - Indian Chapter was selected as a part of the Indian team which represented the Indian scientific fraternity at the 57th Meeting of Nobel Laureates and Students in Lindau, Germany, from July 1-6th, 2007. The Nobel Laureate meet was ensued by visits to various German research institutions, organized by German Research Foundation from July 9-14, 2007 in collaboration with DST. Mr. Ratnesh is currently pursuing his doctoral studies under the guidance of Dr. (Mrs.) Vandana B. Patravale at the Institute of Chemical Technology, Mumbai.
CRS - IC supported First Indo-Japanese International Joint Symposium on 'Overcoming Intractable Infectious Diseases" on 6-7th November 2007, held at Tokyo, Japan
Prof. H.L.Bhalla Emeritus President CRS-IC was Co-chair of the symposium along with Prof Hiroshi Terada, Tokyo University of Science, Tokyo, Japan. Amongst the Indian speakers, were Prof. K.K.Singh, Secretary CRS-IC and Dr. Vandana B. Patravale member executive committee of CRS-IC.
Eighth International Symposium on "Advances in Technology and Business Potential of New Drug Delivery Systems" 26th and 27th Feb. 2008 at B.V. Patel PERD Centre, Ahmedabad.
CRS - Indian Chapter arranged its 8th International Symposium titled "Advances in Technology & Business Potential of New Drug Delivery Systems on February 26th & 27th, 2008 at B.V. Patel PERD Centre, Ahmedabad (India).
The symposium was inaugurated by Shri. Dilipbhai Shanghvi, Chairman and Managing Director of Sun Pharmaceutical Industries Ltd., India. He was also kind to release the book of Abstracts. The inaugural function was presided over by Shri Ajit Singh who is the President CRS - Indian Chapter. He also welcomed the guests, speakers, members of the International Advisory Board and the delegates. Shri Anantbhai Thakore, Co-Chairman of the symposium and Chairman of Board of Trustees of B.V. Patel PERD Centre gave an introduction of B.V. Patel PERD Centre and welcomed all on behalf of PERD Centre. Prof. T.Nagai, the Guest of Honour released the first issue of Newsletter of the CRS Indian Chapter. Prof. H.L.Bhalla, Chairman of the Symposium introduced the dignitaries on the dais and Prof. K.K.Singh, secretary of the Chapter proposed vote of thanks. The scientific proceedings started with key note address: Recent Advances in Biopharmaceutics: BCS and BDDCS by Prof. Les Benet. It was followed by as many as 15 invited talks by distinguished scientists from India and abroad. In addition, there was a special session on excipients in which two representatives of excipients manufacturers discussed their products.

Physics of Solid Dosage Forms & Their Influence on Design of Novel Products
The symposium has moved from strength to strength and this year there was significantly more particular for Industry and Academia and the symposium had over 350 delegates and about 150 poster presentations. The concluding function was conducted by Prof. H.L.Bhalla. He announced the names of the winners of the Best & 2nd Best poster prize and gave the certificates and the prizes to the candidates in the capacity of Chairman of the Scientific Committee. The 1st prize for the poster Best Poster was awarded to Mr. Ritnesh Jain and Dr. V.B. Patravale. The 2nd Prize was shared by Ms. Poonam Saraf and Prof. P.V. Devarajan & Ms. Pooja Sachan & Prof. K.K. Singh. Thereafter, he invited the faculty members and interested delegates to express their opinion about the proceedings and make suggestions for improving the quality of future meetings. Many guest speakers from abroad praised the quality of oral and poster presentations as well as hospitality and other arrangements. Prof. Bhalla concluded the session by expressing his gratitude to all who made the symposium a grand success and also declared the closing of proceedings.
